Smelly And Sore Throat

Presentation of Chairman

Hi everyone!
My name is Dag Einar and is 28 years old and newly elected leader of the UAP. I come originally from Larvik, but has lived in Oslo for almost ten years, the last three years on Oppsal. For everyday, I am research fellow and doctoral student at the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo. In the work on a doctorate, I write a thesis on the political thinking of the British philosophers Isaiah Berlin and Karl Popper, and in particular their attempt to defend a liberal democracy characterized by intellectual openness and willingness to compromise.

Political background:
Here I would of course wish that there was a long list of praise from office, but the truth is that the leadership of the UAP is my first official duties of the Labour Party. However, I have over many years been very interested politics. Some might argue that I am a real policy nerd who find it difficult to talk about other things. But it is only recently that I have supplemented the purely academic interest in politics with an ever-increasing political commitment. In particular, there were elections in 2005 and 2007 that made me more engaged. I also have two years have been representative of the temporary employees Department of Political Science (2006-7). political issues that concern me:

main reason why I became politically active in the Labour Party is that recent years have become clearer to me how important and necessary it is to take up the fight for justice and democracy, both in the Norwegian society and the world at large. As I see it, it is not possible to take for granted that the development will go in the right direction all by itself, but that is something that requires effort from everyone who wants a good thing. I'm especially interested in research and education which surely can be regarded as a kind of occupational injury. Here, I believe that there is still a job to do, because the policy in this area too is largely characterized by a random fashion waves, and to a sufficient degree by a proper reflection on how research and education can help create a more just society and a more vibrant democracy. I am also concerned about local issues, particularly urban development and social issues in Oslo, where the development unfortunately has stood still or gone in the wrong direction in recent years. In addition, I am also interested in foreign and security policy, and in particular I am interested in questions about how we can pave the way for a more solidarity and more peaceful world.
